Vacancy Application for Committees/Commissions

Interested in making a positive impact in your community? Serving on a City Commission or Committee is an excellent way to get involved and contribute to your city's development.

Step 1: Decide which commission or committee you would like to join.

Click here to read about all of our committees and commissions or check for current vacancies before you apply. Please review the Committees and Commissions Appointment Policy below for a better understanding of the process.

Step 2: Apply using the Committee and Commissions Application Form

Download the Committees and Commissions Application Form below and return it to the City Recorder via email at cityrecorder@cityoftalent.org or in-person at Town Hall during regular business hours.

You will receive a confirmation email letting you know your application was received.

Step 3: Application vetting

Once your application has been received by the City Recorder, it will be reviewed for accuracy and to ensure it meets the membership requirements of the committee or commission you are applying for. To review the requirements for a specific committee or commission, please click reach out to the City Recorder at cityrecorder@cityoftalent.org

Step 4: Interviews!

Once your application has been properly vetted, the next step will be an interview with the Mayor of Talent. This informative step gives our elected leadership a good understanding of your commitment and also serves as an informational step to go over meeting dates, responsibilities, and dedication to the role. The Mayor will then make a recommendation for appointment to the desired committee or commission.

After an interview with our Mayor, candidates will attend the next committee or commission meeting for a meet and greet with members. Candidates are encouraged to attend in-person and to stay for the whole meeting. The committee or commission will then make a motion to accept or deny the Mayor's recommendation.

Step 5: Appointment by City Council

If the committee or commission accepts the Mayor's recommendation, the final step is appointment by the City Council at the next regularly scheduled City Council meeting. Candidates do not have to attend but it can be a good idea to make a presence shown so that the councilors can see who they are appointing. A city councilor will make an appointment to a city committee or commission via a motion which includes the name of the candidate, the committee or commission, if they will be a full member or an alternate, and the duration of the membership. After a vote, the appointment is complete!

Step 6: Attend the next committee or commission meeting!

You are now a full voting member of your committee or commission! Hooray!

A simple onboarding process to your appointed committee or commission will be conducted by the associated Chair. To get a better understanding of how citizen advisory groups work, read the League of Oregon Cities - Municipal Boards, Commissions and Committees Handbook below.
