Work Started to Repair Sidewalks at Ray's Food Place

Did you notice the cones and barriers along the sidewalks at Ray’s Food Place?  Have you ever wondered when the raised sidewalk panels would be fixed? If so, read on!

The City of Talent and Ray’s Food Place would like to inform residents of work being done on the sidewalks along E. Wagner and S. Market Streets adjacent to the Ray’s parking lot.

On Friday, April 19, 2024, crews began work on the sidewalks to remove the raised concrete panels and removed trees from the same area. The selected trees were identified to have caused the sidewalk damage and additionally were affecting the structural integrity of the nearby road and public utilities.

The Community Development Department at the City of Talent worked with Ray’s to identify the scope of work which included repair and replacement of damaged sidewalks, removing any safety hazards, and maintaining ADA compliance. Removal of the trees was a difficult decision, however, City staff identified tree removal as a method to maintaining community safety, avoiding future, repetitive costly repair of the sidewalk and curb, which were being damaged by the tree roots.

Ray’s, with the help of Canopy Arbor Care, has chosen Red Oak, Chinese Pistache, Native Incent Cedar, and Sugar Maple species to be planted in the parking lot planter spaces. Work is expected to be completed by Friday, May 3, 2024.
