County Starts Greenway Fuel Reduction Project

Bear Creek Greenway

Beginning Monday, April 1, efforts will commence to reduce hazardous fuels left behind by the Almeda Fire along the Bear Creek Greenway.

The project aims to clear dry, woody material on the ground, address standing dead trees, and improve access for fire and natural resource restoration officials. It will start on publicly owned lands along the Greenway between Ashland and Talent, extending northward to Phoenix later this year.

Scheduled work along the Talent Greenway section is expected around April 22nd, involving cutting, clearing, and burning debris.

This collaborative initiative involves the cities of Talent, Phoenix, and Jackson County, funded by the Oregon State Fire Marshal’s 2023 Community Wildfire Risk Reduction Grant Program. Managed by The Freshwater Trust, under contract with Jackson County, the project will necessitate limited closures of the Greenway path for user safety.
