Public Conversations About the City’s Budget and Finances
Each spring, the City Council, the Budget Committee, and City staff work together to create a budget for the next year. This budget is one of the most important documents the City prepares. It shows how the City plans to spend money and what each department will focus on.
One of the City Council’s current goals is to share more information about the City’s financial health. Some long-term trends—such as spending growing faster than income—cannot continue forever and will need to be addressed at some point. This is especially true for the City’s main operating fund, which pays for basic services like City administration, police, and community development.
Residents who want to learn more can attend an upcoming open house, where City staff will be available to explain the information and answer questions:
- March 18, 4–5:30 p.m. — Talent Community Center
The March 18 open house will be followed by a City Council meeting. At that meeting, members of the public can share their thoughts, ask questions, and provide input to both the City Council and staff.
