The Position
Under the supervision of the Police Chief, the Police Lieutenant is responsible for supervising personnel, managing operations, and ensuring professional, effective, and community-focused policing services. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong leadership, sound judgment, and a commitment to integrity, accountability, and public service, along with the ability to plan, coordinate, and evaluate law enforcement activities.
Minimum Qualifications
- Eight (8) years of sworn police officer experience, including time spent in a supervisory capacity.
- Advanced Police Officers Certification issued by the Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPPSST)
- The ability to obtain DPSST Police Supervisory Certification within 12 months of appointment.
- The ability to obtain DPSST Police Middle Management Certification within 18 months of appointment.
Typical Duties
- Command the Community Service Officer staff (to include other police volunteer programs), directing operations to meet department requirements and objectives.
- Provide direct management and supervision of criminal investigations.
- Conduct internal investigations as required.
- Supervise evidence collection, management, control, inventory, storage and disposition, act as alternate evidence custodian.
- Oversee the department training program, recommending standards, and ensuring that all department members meet those standards.
- Oversee the department budget to ensure that appropriate expenditures are made to adequately support department operations, and to ensure that those expenditures occur within approved budget limitations.
- Oversee department personnel actions to ensure that all necessary actions are initiated in a timely manner and in accordance with City and department policy, bargaining unit agreements, and applicable law.
- Oversee department administration to ensure that appropriate policies and procedures are in place and adhered to by department personnel.
- Assist with Department Accreditation, ensuring that accreditation standards are regularly assessed and tested with results meeting identified accreditation standards.
- Oversee the maintenance, accountability, and appropriate use of all department equipment, property, and supplies.
- Oversee the release of public information.
- Coordinate and manage special projects as directed by the Chief of Police.
- Perform the duties of Sergeant and Police Officer as required.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
Salary
The successful candidate will be placed in the salary range based on experience and qualifications.
Starting Salary: $77,134 - $118,773 (Salary range is under review)
Terms: Full-time – 40 hours per week / Exempt with benefits
