Talent City Council seats numbers 1, 3, 4 and 5 as well as the Mayorship are up for election in the November 8, 2022 General Election. The filing period for running as a candidate in the November election is June 1 through August 29, 2022. Rules for prospective candidates are governed by state law and the Talent Municipal Code. Prospective candidates are responsible for ensuring compliance with state and local laws.
The Talent Municipal Code contains the local rules for prospective candidates. Those rules can be found in Chapter 2.05 of the Code. Please see www.cityoftalent.org and click on the link on the right hand side of the homepage that says “Talent Municipal Code.” The Talent City Council recently passed an emergency ordinance to allow prospective candidates to pay a $20.00 filing fee in lieu of collecting signatures on a nominating petition. To pay the fee, a check made out to the City of Talent in the amount of $20.00 must accompany the candidate's filing documents.
The Elections Division of the Office of Oregon Secretary of State publishes a County, City and District Candidates Manual (https://sos.oregon.gov/elections/Documents/county-city-district-candidates.pdf) that contains important information for prospective candidates, including links to required forms. Please se pp. 22 and 23 of the Manual for specific information for candidates for city elections. All necessary forms for prospective candidates can be downloaded from the Secretary of State’s manual.
