BEAR SIGHTINGS IN TALENT
Over the last few weeks, there have been multiple sightings of a bear in the City of Talent. The first reported sighting was in the area of Deborah Drive and Betty Jo Way. The bear was initially spotted in a tree, but due to it not being pressured, it left on its own accord during the night.
Since that date, we have had several additional reports. A bear was last seen during the evening on 9/19/2022 in the area of Jordan Ave. and Lithia Way. The caller says the bear had been getting into garbage cans and knocking them over and eating food that had been discarded.
The Talent Police Department has notified the local Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (ODFW) Office. They recommend putting garbage cans out on the morning of pick-up if possible, not the night before. If you see the bear, they ask you to please report it to (541) 826-8774. Report the location you saw it, the time, and the behavior it was exhibiting. If the bear is acting aggressive call 911 for emergency response. Do NOT approach the bear or attempt to move it along. Any additional questions/concerns can be directed to the ODFW.
