April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month
The Talent Police Department will have extra patrols focusing on Distracted Driving during the month of April.  These patrols are possible with overtime grants from ODOT and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
Distracted drivers pose a deadly risk to everyone on the road.
Texting is the most alarming distraction. Sending or reading a text takes your eyes off the road for 5 seconds.  At 55 mph, that’s like driving the length of an entire football field with your eyes closed.
Oregon’s cell phone law prohibits the use of any mobile electronic devices by drivers unless you are using a hands-free device (drivers under the age of 18 are banned from using any kind of mobile electronic device, hands-free or not.) No driver of any age is allowed to text while driving.
